Khajiit entered our lives less than a month after my husband and I were married. At the time one of our nephews was living with us while attending college (we live practically on the campus). Our nephew and I had wormed our way into an agreement with my then fiancée that we could get a cat after our wedding.
He did not realize that we would be IMMEDIATELY getting a cat after our honeymoon. Laughing I had been preparing the condo weeks leading up to our wedding for a cat. We had a cat tree litter box, toys, litter mat, cat carrier backpack, etc. Basically everything but the cat and food. How it didn’t occur to him, I will never know!

The week after our honeymoon we were out shopping on a Saturday and I said let’s stop in at the pet store and see if they have any cats. He agrees willingly, poor unfortunate soul, and I then grab the cat carrier from the trunk (yes, I had it just waiting in there) and we head in, “just to look”.
I immediately see the cutest little orange fur ball and want to go in and hold him. My husband, still in denial, asks the attendant and we go in. I pick him up, he looks into my eyes, and they are golden just like our dog. I say this to my husband and all of a sudden he understands that we are going home with this cat. Physically it looks like he panics and then resigns himself all at the same moment. Fester, as they had called him, (4 month old orange tabby) was coming home with us.

When we get home our dog, Dax, can obviously smell him and is thrilled! Of course the kitten has probably never encountered a dog, let alone a 90 lb. muscle monster, so we let them sniff each other while Fester was still in his carrier and then take him to our room to acclimate.
He was a curious kitten and very lively. Our nephew requested to have him in his room for a while, so we set everything up for him in his room and then got to know him so we could rename him. As we were sending pictures and thinking of names throughout our family members. A different nephew suggested Khajiit, referring to the “Elder Scrolls.” As each of our nephews began speaking like them it was clear this was going to be the name of our cat.

It took about 2 weeks for Dax and Khajiit to acclimate to each other and at first we thought Khajiit was terrified of the dog. Soon though we realized that he was most certainly playing us. He would feign fear of the dog so we would carry him and dote on him, and when we weren’t looking he would kiss and snuggle the dog or hunt him. His favorite game even now is to hunt the dog. Dax is such a good sport up until the Khajiit takes his claws out and then Dax runs crying from him. There's nothing like the site of a 90 lb. dog running in fear and barking for help from a 4 lb. kitten. Eventually we nicknamed the cat, The Demon Khajiit, with his mischievous nature and slightly evil streak he is certainly the younger brother in this household.
We are now 2 years into a life with the Demon Khajiit, and while he may love to torture his big brother, they are also inseparable and love to be close together. From traveling to snuggling, playing to torturing each other, they are the best of friends!
